Phillip was the first immigrant from this Rechten family line to the United States from Bremen, Germany. He immigrated in 1868. All of his children had been born in Germany prior to his immigration. It is unclear whether his entire family immigrated, but it is clear that both sons, George and Phillip, settled in America at some point.
