He was left to raise his 17 year old son, William along with Mildred, who was 14, Evelyn just 9 years old, and baby Irene, only 8 months old. Irene is listed with her aunt and uncle, Frank and Christine Meeks living at 921 Garden Street, in the very same year.

By 1930, William had married his second wife, Katherine and they had a daughter, Marie K. who was 6 years old by 1930. Evelyn, William's daughter from his first marriage, was living at home as well. The Rechten family finally owned their own home worth $11,000 at 119 Hauxhust Avenue in Weehawken, New Jersey. William continued working as a painter for the railroad while Katherine remained at home to care for their children.
