Documents:
1. Sophie Gaeckle entry, Bischwiller Births N, 1867, 8E 46/19., Archives departementales du Bas-Rhin, France.

2. Arnold-Gaeckle marriage certificate, no. 11623, (1894), Bureau of Records, Health Department, City of New York.

3. Jacob Arnold household, 1900 U.S. census, New York, New York, population schedule, town of Manhattan, enumeration district [ED] 236, supervisor's district [SD] 1, sheet 3A, dwelling 6, family 55.

In 1900, Jacob and Sophie had been married 6 years. At this point they were without any children living at 409 Fifth Street in Manhattan. Jacob was working as a laborer.

4. Jacob Arnold household, 1910 U.S. census, New York, New York, town of Manhattan, enumeration district [ED] 606, supervisor's district [SD] --, sheet 5A, dwelling ---, family 81.

In 1910, Sophie and Jacob were renting a home at 2449 Eighth Avenue in Manhattan. Jacob was working as a baker, and Sophie was caring for their 6 year old son, Fred. This census shows that Sophie immigrated in 1888, while Jacob immigrated in 1891.

5. Jacob Arnold household, 1930 U.S. census, New York, New York, enumeration district [ED] 31-871, supervisor's district [SD] --, sheet 24, dwelling 129, family 432.

By 1930, while still living in Manhattan, now lived on West 130 Street. Jacob was now working as an elevator operator at an apartment house. Their son, Fred, had recently married, and there is no indication that Sophie and Jacob had any other children.

6. Sophie Gaeckle death certificate no. 12543 (1941), Bureau of Records Department of Health Borough of Manhattan.

The certificate erroneously lists Sophie's Father as William "Carley" and her mother as Louise "Chazseca." The correct names are noted in the left bar and are documented in the birth and marriage record. Most likely this certificate was filled out and signed by the son, though listed as Sophie's husband. Not only is the son't address listed rather than the husband's who was residing at 1033 Hugenot Aveue, but the son's signature can be viewed on his profile page and compared with the one on the certificate as being very similar in contrast to the signature of the husband's.
