Sources/Documents:
1. Samuel Marshall household, 1860 U.S. census, Richmond County, New York, population schedule, city of Westfield, Port Richmond post office, page 228, dwelling 1621, family 1660.

2. Sam Marshall household, 1870 U.S. census, Richmond County, New York, population schedule, city of Westfield, South Side post office, page 92, dwelling 693, family 796.

In 1870, Sam Marshall, at 45 years old, was living in Westfield, New York with his wife, Susan. At 44 years old, according to this census which may not include all children, Susan had given birth to four children: Vergner, 17; George, 7; Augustine, 4; and Maggie, 1. Mary Leicester, aged 65 and widowed, is living with the family as well.

3. Samuel B. Marshall household, 1880 U.S. census, Richmond County, New York, population schedule, town of Rossville, enumeration district [ED] 309, supervisor's district [SD] , page 54, dwelling 432 , family 543, Family History Library Film 1254923, page 386B.

By 1880, the Marshall family had moved to Rossville. Samuel continued to work as an oysterman. Another son had been added to the family, Edward B. who was now 9 years old. Vergner, who would now be 27, most likely moved out on his own, but it is unknown whether or not he married or if indeed he was still living. Augustine, listed as a male in the 1870 census is missing from the 1880 census, but there is now a child by the name of Oscar B. who was not listed on the 1870 census, but would have been near the same age. Both parents and all children are listed as having been born in New York.

4. Samuel Barron Marsahll death certificate, no. 671, (1899), New York City Archives, Borough of Richmond, New York.
